2014 Culture Night: Past & Present
2013 BKSCA Asian Culture Night:
Night of Cultural Celebration
It was a beautiful show of colors and sounds at the "Silk and Thunder" performed by Jung Im Lee Korean Dance Academy, Hikari Taiko, and AATF Chinese Dance Group.
-The Korean team showcased beautiful colors in Hwa Kwan Mu - scarf dance, pleasantly treated eyes and ears in Three Drum Dance, and finished with the traditional Fan Dance.
-The Japanese drummers presented laughter, celebration, protection and power all in the sounds of their regal drums.
-The young Chinese dancers brought smiles to everyone's faces as they leaped and twirled around the stage, sometimes in incredible stilt-like high heels.
It was a great night of cultural celebration and the audiences were able to walk away with new understanding of similarities and differences in these three Asian countries.
Welcome Anseong Students
Brea Anseong Student Exchange: Summer 2012
On July 26, 2012, twenty students from Anseong, Korea, came to Brea on a cultural and educational exchange program. Students ranging in ages 13-15 participated in a month long homestay program that included language courses during the weekdays and cultural programs on weekends. Cultural education included a tour of Brea on Brea’s very own trolley, a trip to the Getty Museum and to University of California, Irvine, as well as a day at Disneyland, a trip to the Angel’s game, and a BBQ at Brea’s Plunge.
The students were made welcomed at an official Welcome Dinner that was attended by Congressman Ed Royce, Mayor Don Schweitzer, many of Brea’s Council Members, and hosted by Brea Korea Sister City Association members at Southland Church in Brea. During their stay the students also attended a council meeting where they received a Proclamation from the Mayor, experience Getty Museum, a trip that was sponsored by Nachimban Church of Brea, and got to live like a normal American teenager with their host families.
In spring of 2013, we are planning to send a group of Brea students to Anseong, Korea, for a ten-day trip for our Brea students to experience life in Korea.
